JOHNSON SCHOLARSHIP FOUNDATION AWARDS 3-YEAR MATCHING FUNDS GIFT OF $300,000 TO FOUNDATION FOR HEARING RESEARCH
Grant Will Support Innovative Listening and Spoken Language Services for Deaf or Hard of Hearing Children
REDWOOD CITY, Calif. – Foundation for Hearing Research, Inc. dba Weingarten Children’s Center (FHR), has been awarded a three-year matching funds gift of $300,000 from the Johnson Scholarship Foundation (JSF). The matching funds will boost the amount to $600,000. FHR specializes in teaching listening and spoken language to young children who are deaf or hard of hearing. The grant will support FHR’s BabyTalk Teleintervention Program and Talk2Me™ Digital Listening and Spoken Language Parent Education Program with Coaching Support.
“We are delighted to receive this support from the Johnson Scholarship Foundation to expand our programs to teach young children who are deaf or hard of hearing to listen, speak, and learn. We look forward to developing and implementing programs to transform lives of these children wherever they live and whatever their circumstances,” says FHR Executive Director Bill Doyle.

FHR operates Weingarten Children’s Center, a school and clinic in Redwood City; BabyTalk Teleintervention Program, a partnership with Stanford School of Medicine serving families with children age 0-3; TeachLSL™, distance learning program for children ages 3-5 throughout California and Nevada; and Talk2Me™, a new program developing digital games and lessons teaching parents to facilitate listening and spoken language development in their children ages 0-3.
